October 2009
The September Local Section Meeting was held on Friday September 18, in
Albuquerque at the New Mexico Design Center, featuring the cuisine of
Chef Jim White.
Our speaker was Dr. Victoria Finkenstadt,
USDA National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research (Peoria,
IL). She made a presentation on “Food or Fuel? The case
for and against ethanol”.

September 2009
The August 2009 meeting was held August 5 from 6-9 pm at the Flying Star in downtown Albuquerque.
This Meeting was a joint meeting with AIChE and SWE.
The
guest speaker was H. Scott Fogler the current National AIChE

April 2009 meeting was held on Monday April 27 in Santa Fe, NM.
The speaker was Dr Jeffrey I. Seeman from the University
of
Richmond, presenting the "Human Side of Chemistry".

The
February 2009 meeting was held on the 27th at the Flying Star Cafe
in downtown Albuquerque. The speaker was Attila Pavlath,
former ACS President. He made a presentation on
"Alternate Energy Sources: From the Sun to the Depths of the
Earth".

2009
The
11th Annual New Mexico Tech Chemistry Symposium was held at New
Mexico Tech on Friday, November 7, 2008. All talks were held on
campus in Workman 101 with some activities in Jones Hall 202. A campus
map is available here. On campus parking
was available to those attending the Symposium.

November 2008
The
October meeting was held in Las Vegas, NM on Ocotber 10, 2008.
The speaker was Dr. John Marquart who gave a
presentation entitled "Caves - Worlds Within the World: An Introduction
to the Chemistry, Geology and Ecology of Caves."

October 2008
The May
meeting will be our annual Awards and Honors
Dinner held at the University of New Mexico Student Union Building on
May 9th.
The Speaker will be Prof. Helene R. Dickel who will give a
talk entitled "Molecules in Interstellar Space".

The
Women's Chemist Committee met February 2, 2008 in Santa Fe.
The speaker was Dr. Jaime Barnes of UNM and the topic will be
"Volatile Chemistry of Arc Volcanoes".
